Sunday 10 May saw more than 3,000 women donning bright pink t-shirts and running, jogging or walking the 5k "Race for Life" event around Harlow Town Park - all in the name of Cancer Research. The support for those taking part was enormous - family and friends gathered around the course and at the start/finish line to take photos, clap and cheer everyone on.
Among the ladies present was a team of past and present employees of Pellys LLP or, as they were known on the day; "In the Pink 2009".
Together they managed to raise a total of £2,000 by running or walking the tiring three and a half mile track around the Town Park in the Sunday morning heat.
Victoria Pratley, Hannah Brace and Sarah Scarth managed to complete the course in less than 30 minutes, whilst the others chose to take a more leisurely stroll in the walkers' category. Victoria who is an employment lawyer based in Pellys' Cambridge office said "I really enjoyed the race and was pleased with my time of 29 minutes. I shall now continue to train hard in order to beat my personal best next year."
On completing the course everyone was given a goody bag together with a "Race for Life" medal.
This event's fundraising target was £193,000. With the added bonus of a clothes donation drop off point the local charity shops will be well stocked this summer.
The Harlow race was one of the first in the season of "Race for Life" events, with others taking place up and down the country in the weeks and months to come.
